A coastal bathroom earns its keep with durability decisions more than design flourishes:

• A curbless or low-curb shower with a handheld sprayer is the single best sandy-feet solution ever invented. Bonus points for a bench.
• Porcelain tile on floors and wet walls shrugs off sand's grit and salt air's corrosion better than most natural stone, at a friendlier price.
• Solid-surface or quartz counters handle sunscreen bottles and dripping swim gear without staining or etching.
• Robust ventilation matters more near the coast, where marine-layer humidity slows drying and invites mildew. A quiet, properly sized exhaust fan on a humidity sensor pays for itself in avoided regrout jobs.

The hardware that survives salt air

Within a mile or two of the water, cheap plated finishes pit and peel surprisingly fast. Solid brass fixtures with quality PVD finishes — brushed nickel and satin brass hold up especially well — cost more up front and look new for a decade. Towel hooks beat towel bars for wet-swimsuit reality, and heated towel racks, a small luxury, solve the perpetually-damp-towel problem for good.

A word about timelines this year

Here's the honest, current-conditions note: fixture and material lead times are running longer than usual right now. Vanities, specialty tile, shower glass, and certain plumbing fixtures that used to arrive in two weeks are quoting six, eight, sometimes twelve.
